Abstract

Topossequences developed over basic rocks in the Amazonian region and south of Brazil were studied. Tranches were made in order to study the morphology of the representativo soils such as summit, slope and vailey. The soils were sampled and resin-impregnated to make possible the micromorphology studies in thin sections. The results obtained showed that the pedological covers of the two areas are in different evolution stages. Meanwhile, both are conditioned by the same geomorphological mechanisms of slope regression. The old latossolic plateau of both areas, characterized by microgranular structure and high porosity, is being replaced by slopes with a dense-structured soil. This replacement moves towards the summit, through mechanisms of lateral water migration. It was observed that this evolutive mechanism is more evident in the Amazonian   soil cover.
