Research Area

Design Methodology

The research area in Design Methodology comprises a reflective, evaluative and propositional process, through the articulation between theory and practice, aiming at solving problems in the built environment. With this, there are two main approaches to the area of concentration. The first, in a reflexive and critical way, consists of systematizing the process of conceiving and developing project ideas, discussing references and the design process based on the circulation of ideas, regional built heritage, rescue and documentation of the work of local professionals, references of architecture and urbanism and their resonances in the cities of Paraná. The second approach, of an evaluative and propositional character, comprises project as a process and product based on assessments to understand the empirical evidence of the relationship between man and the built environment to support the definition of requirements, attributes and design guidelines.

Research Line 1

Design References: history, models and ideias

It aims at historical knowledge and critical reflection on models and ideas for understanding previous solutions, applicable to current problems. With a reflective and critical character, it includes the systematization of the process of conceiving and developing project ideas; the discussion of references and the design process based on the circulation of ideas; the regional built heritage, the rescue and documentation of the performance of local professionals; the references of architecture and urbanism and their resonances in the cities of Paraná.

Research Line 2

Evaluation and subsidies for design: process and product

It aims to apply systematic procedures to understand the evidence of the relationship between man and the built environment. It includes investigations of a purposeful nature in the development of projects, prototypes, the production of artifacts, the systematization of evaluation, guidelines and procedures.
