Program creation
The PPGEL - Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Linguagem (Graduate Program in Language Studies) started its activities on July 12, 2001, from the split between two concentration areas of the Graduate Program in Letters (Master’s level) created in 1993: Portuguese Language and Portuguese Language Literature.
After the splitting of the two areas, the Literature Area remained with the PPGL – Graduate Program in Letters (Area of concentration: Literature Studies), at the Master’s level, with a concentration on Literary Studies.
The Portuguese Language Area created the PPGEL, also at the Master’s level, with two areas of concentration: Language and Meaning and Language and Education.
The Doctoral Program started to be offered by the PPGEL in 2003.
