Introduction
Relying on a highly qualified teaching staff from two UEL Departments (proponent: Departamento de Letras Vernáculas e Cássicas (LET) ; participant: Departamento de Letras Estrangeiras Modernas (LEM) and other invited graduate programs, the Graduate Program in Language Studies (PPGEL) offers opportunities for high level research development at the Masters, Doctoral and Post-doctoral levels.
Among the program’s main objectives is the qualification of teachers capable of responding to the current society’s issues within its social-historical, political, ideological and pedagogical aspects, based on approaches related to language functions and use, creating opportunities for Master’s Degree students to deepen their professional and a academic knowledge as well to develop and improve their research competences. As for Doctoral students, the program offers opportunities for a more efficient development of their professional and academic knowledge by giving them the chance to develop skills to carry out advanced research with originality and independence.

- Concentration Area A: Language and Meaning
- Research Line 1: Linguistic Analysis and Description
- Research Line 2: Text Studies and Discourse
- Concentration Area B: Language and Education
- Research Line 3: Teaching and Learning and the Development of Teachers of Portuguese and other languages;
- Research Line 4: Teaching and Learning and the Development of Foreign Language Teachers.
The Graduate Program in Language Studies (PPGEL) offers scholarships from CAPES and Fundação Araucária.
