RESUMO: Destacam-se no primeiro romance de Coetzee a violência do colonizador e o revide do sujeito colonial. A hierarquização e a objetificação revelam os substratos da colonização na formação da ideologia européia frente à suposta inferioridade do outro diferente. Os resultados mostram as estratégias do colonizador quando este se sente deslocado de sua posição central e relegado à periferia que ele considera própria do colonizado. Indicam também que o colonizado, negando a passividade, se subjetifica pelo revide e pela re-tomada de sua posição na sociedade.

ABSTRACT: The colonizer’s violence and the colonial subject’s resistance are the themes of Coetzee’s first novel. Hierarchization and objectification reveal the various layers of colonization in the formation of European ideology before the alleged inferiority of the different other. Results show the colonizer’s strategies when he is displaced from the center and relocated to the margin which, he thinks, is proper to the colonial subject. Results also show that the colonial subject denies passivity and subjectifies himself through resistance and his recovery of his subject condition in society.

RESUMO: Este artigo reflete sobre as imagens materiais primordiais representadas em Infância (1945) de Graciliano Ramos, que duraram na memória do narrador e que repetidamente vêm à tona na sua narração. As dimensões afetivas da vida passada em Infância situam-se entre o real e o ideal: o ambiente fechado e a natureza livre; o canto e a janela/porta; a secura e a umidade/liquidez. Tal dinâmica revela uma personagem encarcerada em mundo áspero e opressor, todavia inclinada ao devaneio.

ABSTRACT: This article analyzes some prime material images occurring in Graciliano Ramos’ Infância (1945), which lasted in the narrator’s memory and which repeatedly come to the surface in his narration. The affectionate dimensions of life in Infância are located between the reality and the ideal: the closed atmosphere and the free nature; the song and the window/door; the dryness and the humidity/liquidity. Such a dynamic reveals a character imprisoned in a rough and oppressing world, but inclined to the daydream.

RESUMO: No Parallèle des Anciens et des Modernes Charles Perrault questiona a veneração cega de um passado que sacrificaria o tempo presente. Este texto em prosa é regido por uma dinâmica própria, ou seja, pelo movimento reflexivo, característico da reflexão desenvolvida pelos românticos alemães e da modernidade tal como se apresenta sobretudo na crítica de arte de Charles Baudelaire. O questionamento de Perrault implica, neste sentido, o reconhecimento da insuficiência da experiência anterior e a afirmação do tempo presente como novo valor..

ABSTRACT: In Parallèle des Anciens et des Modernes, Charles Perrault questions the blind adoration of a past that would sacrifice the present.  This prose text is governed by a proper dynamics, the reflexive movement, a way of thinking pushed forward by German romantic authors, and a feature of modernity that is particularly present in Baudelaire’s critique of art.  In such a context, this challenge implies the acknowledgement of insufficiency of the previous experience, and the assertion of the present as a new value.

RESUMO: Os desdobramentos da teoria iseriana para uma compreensão mais empírica da relação texto-leitor abre possibilidades para investigação de textos diversos, além de sua previsível aplicação ao texto literário ficcional. Os diários íntimos, estudados unicamente como textos periféricos e subsidiários em outras abordagens, passam a ser encarados como uma prática textual que transcende a intimidade e isolamento tão aderidos à noção mesma de escrita diarística. Como resultante dessa nova aproximação, a convergência de tendências teóricas mais recentes abarcará as preocupações iniciais dos estudos do diarismo, além de  sua mera inserção no campo dos estudos de literatura.

ABSTRACT: The unfolding of the reader-response theory as coined by Iser towards a more empirical understanding of the relationship between reader and text open new possibilities for inquiry of diverse texts, beyond its predicable application to the fictional literary text. Diaries that had only been studied as subsidiary and peripheral texts can now be dealt with as a textual practice that overpass the intimacy and the isolation – traits historically linked to the notion of private writings. As a result of the new approach, the convergence of more recent theoretical tendencies will evolve the initial concerns on the studies of diaries and bring together the role of readership and identity formation in this genre of private writing.

RESUMO: Este trabalho traz a proposta de refletir a constituição do cânone literário brasileiro, a partir da hipótese de que as histórias literárias sejam um dos instrumentos mais importantes de canonização dos nomes num sistema literário. No Brasil, a formação de nosso quadro canônico literário revela-se, em grande parte, nas pioneiras narrativas históricas românticas – como, por exemplo, as do Cônego Fernandes Pinheiro-, uma vez que só através delas que se primeiro preocupa em legitimar uma tradição literária nacional que, de algum modo, inspiraria as nossas manifestações historiográficas posteriores.

ABSTRACT: The goal of this essay is to think about the organization of Brazilian literary canon, beginning from the idea that one of the most important factors to meld the writers and their works into the literary system is the literary history. The formation of our literary canon must be connected to the romantic pioneer histories –  the work by clergyman Fernandes Pinheiro could be an example – because they brought the formulation about our literary tradition, building a canon which those literary histories will select later.

RESUMO: Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar questões acerca do discurso literário, dando-se especial ênfase nas teorias que vêem o texto literário como linguagem intrinsecamente diferenciada e na teoria de Carlos Reis, que vê o discurso literário como texto institucionalmente determinado. Através da análise dessas duas vertentes de conceituação do discurso literário, comparando com a idéia de que a literatura constrói-se histórica e culturalmente, chega-se a conclusão de que ambas trazem uma colaboração válida para se entender o que é a literatura, percebe-se, entretanto, que apenas uma visão mais ampla pode levar ao entendimento do discurso literário.

ABSTRACT: This paper aims to analyze the aspects of the literary discourse. Special emphasis is given to the theories which conceive the literary text as an intrinsically differentiated language and to Carlos Reis’ theory, who sees the literary discourse as an institutionally determined text. Through the analysis of those literary discourse conceptualization approaches, regarding the opinion that literature is formed historically and culturally, we concluded that both present an important perspective to understand what literature is; however, it is perceived that only a wider point of view can lead us to the comprehension of the literary discourse.

RESUMO: Estudo da narrativa Cidade de Deus, de Paulo Lins, tendo como foco a questão de como seu texto se relaciona com a construção crítica da modernidade brasileira e consegue sustentar-se como um universo autônomo do extrafictício. Embora tenha estreitos vínculos com a realidade exterior, o romance adquire valor como obra ficcional devido a seus componentes formais, como a configuração do seu espaço narrativo, o discurso do narrador, a influência da abordagem etnográfica e da linguagem popular marcada pela criatividade das gírias.

ABSTRACT: Study of Paulo Lins’s narrative Cidade de Deus, aiming at the questions “how does its text relate to the critical building of Brazilian modernity?” and “how does it get to sustain itself as an autonomous universe of the extra-fictional?”. In spite of having close relations with the external reality, it acquires value as a fictional work because of its formal components such as: the narrative space design, the narrator’s speech, the influence on the ethnographic approach, and the popular language, and their slang structures.

RESUMO: O gosto do leitor, sobretudo o leitor infanto-juvenil, não é, muitas vezes, objeto de estudos e pesquisas. Tendo em mente o fato de que o leitor é alguém a quem cabe seduzir e convencer e que competir com os divertimentos virtuais não é uma tarefa fácil aos professores e pais que tentam estimular o gosto pela leitura em crianças e jovens, este artigo propõe traçar um perfil do leitor infanto-juvenil na década de 1980 e entre os anos de 1994 e 2004, a fim de verificar o que mudou nesses vinte anos, bem como estabelecer as preferências atuais desse tipo de público.

ABSTRACT: The reader´s tastes, especially that of children and teenager literature, is seldomly the object of study and researches. That in mind, the reader is someone whom it is necessary to convince and to seduce, and the fact that it is very difficult for teachers and parents to try to estimulate children and youths to like to read, competing with virtual entertainement, this paper proposes to make a profile of the reader of children and teenager literature of 1980s and from 1994 to 2004, to verify what have changed in these twenty years.

RESUMO: Este ensaio tem como objetivo fazer uma breve análise do romance Huasipungo (1934), do equatoriano Jorge Icaza, levando em conta a forma como os indígenas são nele retratados: se, por um lado, fica explícita a denúncia da exploração sofrida pelos índios da serra andina, por outro, percebe-se a desumanização destes, que se mostram incapazes de refletir sobre a sua própria realidade e de agir em prol de uma transformação. Ademais, pode-se traçar uma relação entre a existência (ou inexistência) de um pensamento utópico por parte dos indígenas e a construção de sua imagem ao longo do romance.

ABSTRACT: This article proposes an analysis of the Jorge Icaza’s novel, Huasipungo (1934, Equador). We will examine how the indigenous people (from the Andean region) are represented: in spite of the author’s sympathy towards the figure of the Indian, the latter is seen as unable to think or act, and this can be connected with the capacity or incapacity of developing an utopian thought..

RESUMO: A análise apresenta a historiografia literária do poeta e historiador Rubens de Mendonça, considerando os principais representantes da literatura mato-grossense, em um percurso que vai das origens à afirmação cultural. Buscou-se recuperar o estilo do historiador, seguindo as orientações de Roland Barthes; e identificar o mérito do crítico que soube interpretar diferentes manifestações literárias do Estado. Rubens de Mendonça desvela um universo poético de obras e autores ainda inéditos, em sua maioria; e instiga-nos a um mergulho analítico nessa produção.

ABSTRACT: The analysis presents the literary historiography by the poet and historian Rubens de Mendonça, considering the main representatives of mato-grossense literature, from the origins to the cultural assertion moment. It was an attempt to retrieve the style of the historian, following the instructions of Roland Barthes; and to identify the merit of the critic who knew how to interpret the different literary manifestations of the State of Mato Grosso. Rubens de Mendonça reveals a poetical universe of works and authors most of them still unpublished; and he instigates us to the analytical thinking of his production.
